Reviews for Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay 1973
The Underground Wine Journal - July 1988
This light gold-colored wine is beautifully perfumed, with an interesting celery-like, Sauternes-like quality. A nice, still-viable old Chardonnay, it is holding up really quite well and has a lovely spice. Needs to be drunk soon, but an outstanding example of old Chardonnay. 18 Outstanding

Food and Wine Robert Parker Jr. “California’s Best Chardonnays”
As convinced as I remain about the poor aging potential of the great majority of California Chardonnays, there are always exceptions to the rule. Last October I tasted a stunning rich, butter and very much alive 1973 Mount Eden Chardonnay that had held its fruit and vivacity as well as any French white Burgundy. The Mount Eden winery, tucked away in the steep hills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, is an exceptionally great producer of Chardonnay…The Mount Eden Chardonnays are impressive for their richness and intensity so beautifully balanced by crisp acidity. The 1980, the 1982 and the newly released 1983 Chardonnay are California classics.
