Reviews for Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay 1989
88 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - July/August 1998
Green-tinged pale gold. Subdued nose hints at coconut. Moderately concentrated wine with good though not outstanding depth of flavor, but refreshing acidity gives the wine good flavor definition. Just a touch of acidity on the slightly pinched finish. Rain before the harvest resulted in an element of dilution.
Underground Wine Letter - November 1991
It is light yellow in color and has a lovely perfume of citrus and tropical fruit tinged with vanilla and floral nuances, with a spicy undertone. There are delicious flavors of tropical fruit and citrus on the palate, with superb structure and a long finish. 18 1/2 outstanding

California Grapevine - August/September 1991
Medium-light golden yellow color; attractive, toasty, buttery aroma which developed with airing; medium-full body; moderately intense, toasty flavors; well balanced; lingering aftertaste. Superior quality. While not showing quite as well as their 1988 vintage last year, we feel this is an excellent Chardonnay which will reward another year or two of bottling aging. Very highly recommended. 17
