Domaine Eden Pinot Noir 2018

Tasting Notes

Release Date: Spring 2021

Back in 2008 our first Domaine Eden Pinot Noir was created and in the decade from 2008 to 2018 we have learned so much about this vineyard and the remarkable aging potential these Pinot Noirs show. Two years ago, we hosted a 34-year vertical tasting of our Estate Pinots with renowned wine critic Antonio Galloni. All the wines going back to 1983 were vigorous and delicious. There is the same trajectory for our Domaine Pinot. Ten years after vintage, the aromas exhibit complex fragrance and are deeply satisfying on the palate.

2018 has rich aromas of red raspberry, blueberry, and wild anise—moist earth dances on the nose. Firm and slightly tannic on the palate, the flavors are concentrated, intense and totally youthful. The density of flavors are hard to separate, yet it predicts a long evolution in the bottle. Gorgeous.

Gamy aromas of roasted pork and a wet stone minerality surround the plush cranberry fruit on the nose of this bottling. There’s a floral edge to the palate, from rose petal to violet, as well as light red-currant and more game flavors. —M.K.

The 2018 Pinot Noir is positively stellar. Bright, aromatic and deep, the 2018 is marvelously complete. Sweet red cherry, cinnamon, blood orange and mint all grace this flavorful mid-weight Pinot. The 2018 is so nicely done. Drinking window:  2022 – 2032 —A.G.

Delicate, with silky tannins and rich acidity backing a lively mix of cherry turnover and spice flavors, which extend on the supple and open-textured finish. Drink now through 2024.— KM

The 2018 Pinot Noir is also impressive, with lots of Burgundian style in its aromatics of ripe cherries, wood smoke, forest floor, spice, and earth. These carry to a medium-bodied Pinot Noir with a focused, firm, yet elegant texture, good acidity, and outstanding length. It shows the house style nicely and will benefit from another year in bottle and keep through 2028. I’d be happy to drink a bottle at dinner. Maturity 2022 – 2028
