Domaine Eden Pinot Noir 2009

Tasting Notes

Release Date: Spring 2011

This Pinot Noir is a mosaic of different selections and clones grown at Domaine Eden: Dijon clones 777,667, and 828 reside alongside the historic California selections Mount Eden, Calera and Swan. Each is farmed to our strict standards of sustainability, dry farming and low yields.

We use the same exacting methods employed for the Mount Eden Estate wines: natural indigenous fermentations - both primary and secondary, French Burgundy barrels, no filtration or any other manipulation.

Although a mere mile away from Mount Eden as the crow flies, the terroir here is different and it shows. Medium ruby color, complex, earthy and red fruit aromas, this wine has suave texture on the palate with richness and balanced elegance. This is a classic Pinot Noir reflective of its unique peak.

The Domaine Eden 2009 Pinot Noir is a pretty, accessible wine laced with red fruit, flowers and spices. I especially admire the mid-palate sweetness and pliancy here. A soft, graceful Pinot, it is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Lovely mid palate sweetness. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.

Meaty cherry flavors and bluefoot mushroom secents balance the cool, coastal redwood forest character of this wine. The tannins are blocky, needing time to mellow.

Bright ruby.  Black raspberry, cherry and root beer on the nose, with cola and spice notes adding complexity.  Supple, palate-coating dark berry flavors are a touch sweet but offer nice up-front appeal and a seamless texture.  Finishes with good sappy length and lingering dark fruit compote character.  This is extremely easy to drink.
