Mount Eden Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1987
Tasting Notes
Release Date: Fall 1990
In 1980, we cleared a 10 acre section of our mountain estate and planted it with Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Merlot (15%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). In 1985 and 1986 I sold off the wine from this vineyard in bulk, but in 1987 I knew we had something with the specialness you have come to expect from Mount Eden. I wanted to preserve the integrity of our traditional old-vine wine so we decided to label this selection the Young Vine Cuvee.
1987 was a spectacular vintage for Cabernet on this mountain. Vibrant aromas of sweet oak, cassis, and bark leap out from the first glass to last. Delicious now, it should drink well over the next five years.
